Wildly Curious: Why I Started Dame’s Wild World

Hello!
I’m just your average high school student from California — except I became completely obsessed with nature. Forests, tide pools, plants, oceans, wildlife… honestly, I love all of it.
But animals have always been my favorite.
The more I learned about wildlife and ecosystems, the more I started realizing how huge and complicated nature really is. It made me want to keep learning more, even outside of school.
That curiosity is basically what started Dame’s Wild World.
I didn’t create this page because I’m an expert.
Honestly, I’m still figuring things out.
This page is more like my way of exploring topics I genuinely find interesting and documenting what I learn along the way.
The more I research wildlife, animal behavior, and marine ecosystems, the more connected everything starts to feel.
Sometimes one random question turns into an entire deep dive.
That happened when I started researching whale migration and realized scientists still do not fully understand how whales navigate across the Pacific Ocean.
Other times, learning about animal behavior changes how I see humans too.
One of the biggest examples for me was noticing how animals interacted with my autistic sister differently than people often do.
That made me start wondering whether animals experience humans and environments differently than we realize.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is basically a mix of:
wildlife observations
ocean science
environmental topics
random questions I get curious about
and reflections while learning about nature
Some posts are more science-based.
Others are more personal and reflective.
But overall, this page is really just about exploring the natural world and sharing that curiosity with other people.
Especially other students who are still figuring out what interests them.
Look Closer ...
The more I learn about nature, the more I realize the planet is way more complex than it first appears.
Animals, oceans, ecosystems, weather, migration, behavior — everything connects together somehow.
And honestly, that’s probably what keeps me interested.
There is always another question to explore.
The More I Thought About It ...
I used to think science was mostly about memorizing information.
Now I think it is more about learning how to observe the world differently.
The more I pay attention to wildlife and ecosystems, the less random nature starts to feel.
And honestly, I think curiosity is what started all of this for me in the first place.
Wild World Question:
What part of nature or wildlife are you most curious about right now?
Curiosity is usually where exploration begins.
